NOTE: This version of the NUUS published at SUUSI 2000 has been reformatted. You can still get a taste of SUUSI, but there are no graphics, no columns, just the facts, ma'am.

Who Am I ?

By Gessica Stein, age 11
I’m as old as a mountain
I’m as young as a breeze
I’m a newborn baby
I’m an old worn down tree
I’m the power of all
But I am weak
I am scarce
I am plenty
of whom do I speak?
Answer : The Earth

Worship Service, 10, Drill Field
"Honoring all our NEIGHBORS"
All living being on this planet are our NEIGHBORS--the trees, the plants, the four- legged creatures, and those that swim, crawl and fly. Join Carole Eagleheart and friends for a worship experience of chanting, drumming, and dancing in an earth centered spirituality circle.

The Creatures Are Coming!

We will be calling to Eagle, Coyote, Bear & Buffalo at the earth centered spirituality circle tonite. The rumor is they are already on campus. Watch for them! Stop by on the way out of TWOB and enjoy the drumming till the beginning of the circle at 10 at the Drill Field. (If it rains, go to Cafeteria A at Dietrick.)

Did you know:
Blacksburg is Virginia’s largest "town" (In Virginia, "cities" like Radford are politically independent of the counties) with 36,000 people.

Skeet Prices Soar!
As a result of the tragic "accident" (or from some viewers perspective the totally thoughtless and negligent over-hugging) at Wednesday’s Cabaret in which the last known male skeet met a sudden and untimely death, skeet prices have soared to unprecedented levels. A box of 90 immature skeet of unknown and unidentifiable gender, which previously sold at fine stores for just $3.99, was reportedly selling for $479.99 this morning. Stock prices and skeet futures also soared at market openings this morning. Trading in shares of market leaders Acme Skeet, National Skeet and United Skeet was suspended at 9:30am. The market was rife with rumor that a certain well-known capitalist entrepreneur would announce the initial public offering of a new company, SUUSI Skeet, later today. This led to speculation that male skeet were being hoarded and the skeet market manipulated by someone at SUUSI. When asked for comment, spokespersons at the National Association of Skeet Dealers would only say, "Ask Steve." Which Steve they were referring to is anyone’s guess.

Appalachian Neighbors
You probably know the hillbilly myth is a fraud… but think twice about the "rugged individualist mountaineer" too. As Barry Whittemore explains in his Appalachian History workshop, the earliest European settlers here in the 1700’s required help from their neighbors. Modern UU’s may have bought the self-sufficiency myth, but we can’t survive alone either. We need to acknowledge the neighbors, accept and receive help, and recognize that we live in community. To be independent, we need to be interdependent...
