Young Adults
The SUUSI Young Adult program offers a strong, caring, loving community to participants ages 18 to 25. We come together to live in a dorm for one week a year and participate in activities made by, and for young adults. It's a smaller community within SUUSI's own welcoming arms where you will meet new, interesting, and caring people every year you come.
The YA program is developed both by the staff members and the community at large. During the year, YA's have the chance to suggest and plan activities during the week. We try to keep the schedule as new and interesting to our members as possible. If a workshop/activity during the week takes significant amounts of planning community members are eligible for part time staff credit to run it.
Watch out for performances: YA talent tends to surface at the coffee house, cabaret, and other more random outlets as well. The YAs also dominate the dance floors at CACHE and Serendipity. We participate in two important bridging ceremonies as well. One ceremony will be to welcome the teens that will be young adults at the following SUUSI, and the second to recognize those YAs that are 25 years old and will be leaving the YA program and transitioning in to SUUSI's median programming.
Every year, the YA Staff hopes to support the idea of existing as an intentional community within the bigger intentional community that is SUUSI. In this we hope to bring back focus on our integration into this amazing Intergenerational community that SUUSI offers us. We will be modifying old events, or offering new ones that we hope to bring to everyone in the SUUSI community. We hope to bring our community out to everyone else so that every SUUSI participant might get to experience the community bonds that have brought YA's back to SUUSI year after year after year.
Wondering what you should pack for the week? Must haves are cameras, swimsuits, music, instruments, and fans! Also, bring your games, toys, inflatable anythings, your favorite clothes for all types of weather and for dressing up, an open mind, good ideas, and great feelings. If you bring a book, this is fair warning that you will have little time to read it. That is, unless you enjoy seclusion and introversion, which is totally cool too.
One of the ways to get to know the YAs and be a part of the community before and after SUUSI is through the SUUSI YA Group on Facebook (a search of those terms should find it for you). If you would like to join and share with the community on-line, simply request to join the goup. And if you have any additional questions/concerns/ ideas about the YA program, feel free to email the YA Co-Directors, Seth Berkeley and Ember Fulson at This email address is being protected from spambots. Can't wait to see you there!
Medians 26ish - 35ish
Stuck in the middle with you!
Medians are a SUUSI affinity group, consisting of adults (at least 21 years old) who prefer a late-night, social lifestyle. We are all over the map demographically: college students, professionals, blue collar wage-jockeys, practicing ministers, new parents, old parents, no-chance-in-hell parents.
It’s kind of a “do it yourself ” SUUSI experience where members can create their own programming. Over the last several years, Median workshops, nature activities, and late-night gatherings have developed a life of their own with events like BBQuusi, Beer and Wine tastings, Texas Hold‘em Poker, and SUUSIToes.
Medians also have a housing option and are active in online communities that provide some solace during the other 359 days of the year that we don’t “look to” as much as the 6 days of SUUSI!
Activities
There are several workshops and nature trips that are tagged as Median-led or Median-friendly. Median-led workshops are led by self-identified members of the Median community and are open to all SUUSI participants. Medians are encouraged to plan ahead and register for Median-friendly workshops and nature trips (see above right) so that we can participate together.
We also have less formal activities including games, athletics, and social gatherings. When you arrive at Check-In, please stop by the Median table and see all we have to offer, or suggest an activity that you’d like to happen during the week.

Middlers 11-13
In recognition of the unique needs and abilities of different stages of development, the Board and Core Staff have created a new program for SUUSi-goers ages 11 to 13. This age group is beginning the move away from childhood and toward adolescence and the rights, privileges and responsibilities that entails.
During SUUSI, we will be creating space, opportunity and direction for each 11, 12 and 13-year-old to build community within their age group as well as with the entire 11-13s group and with the larger community. We will also be looking at ways our UU and personal values can shape our actions.
Each Middler will belong to and meet with a small group within their age group daily (much like the Teen Touch Groups) to insure that each child has a rich experience. Look at our 2013 catalog for more information about this exciting new program.
Teen Program

The SUUSI Teen Program is an intense community experience for people ages 14 to 17. Adult staff and teen leaders (older teens elected to lead their community during the previous SUUSI) work together to create a fun, safe and healthy place for teens to explore and grow.
The week is focused around large and small group interactions, where UU principles are developed and practiced. Each new day brings
